Push, email, text and in-app: which one gets used
How Cortex picks a channel for each member, and what each channel is good for.
You write a message once. Cortex then picks the channel for each member, using the one that member opens most, and sends close to the time that member usually opens the app.
How the choice is made
Maya works out at 7 p.m. and never opens email, so she gets a push at 7:12. Riley is two days into a trial and opens the app often, so Riley sees an in-app card the next time the app opens. Two members can get the same message on different channels.
What each channel is good for
- Push: short, timely nudges, such as a streak about to break or a class with spots left.
- In-app: a card members see when they open the app, with a button such as booking a slot.
- Text: urgent or important notes. The text preview shows a character count, so you can keep it to one message.
- Email: longer updates and anything a member may want to keep.
Good to know
A member only gets channels they've allowed. Someone who turned off notifications or unsubscribed from email won't get that channel.
Getting delivered
We set up and maintain the sending settings that keep your email out of spam folders and your push notifications arriving. If members say they aren't getting messages, contact your account team.
