How app store releases work

Our team submits your apps to the stores and ships updates, and most of what you change in the console reaches members without a new release.

Your phone, tablet, watch, web and TV apps are built by one team and released together. We handle each app store submission, for phones and for TVs, so you never deal with the stores yourself.

What needs a store release

Anything you add or change in the console shows up in the app without a new version. That covers workouts, programs, videos in the Media library, nutrition plans and coaches.

Some changes do need a new version in the stores:

  • The app's name or the icon on a member's home screen
  • New features and screens, and fixes to how the app runs on a device

How an update reaches members

  1. Tell your account team what you'd like changed.
  2. We build and test the change, then submit it to the App Store, Google Play and the TV stores.
  3. Each store reviews the update before releasing it. We can't control how long their review takes.
  4. Members get the new version through their store's normal updates.

Tip

If a member says something looks out of date, ask them to update the app from their store first. A "missing" feature is often an older version still installed on their phone.

After launch we host, update and fix the apps for you. Subscriptions and in-app purchases are set up as part of the first release.
